Arthur was born out of wedlock and it is not currently known what the surname of his biological Father was.
He was raised by his grandparents (Richard & Mary Harris) and was always referred to as a younger brother by all of his Aunts & Uncles.
Primarily due to this fact, he retained the surname of Harris, his Mother's maiden name.
