In the 1851 Census Harriet is living with her parents and a one year old boy named "Frederick Gore". Frederick is listed as a grandson to Thomas and Sarah Owen. There is a possibility that Harriet is the mother of this child, though her name is listed as Owen. The child may have been born out of wedlock. Further research is being conducted on this matter.

Note that Harriet is fifteen years older than Richard (Harris). This fact was not known until 2006. Harriet's year of birth has been verified (within a three year time period) using information contained in several census records of the day.

In the 1851 English census her profession was listed as "school mistress".

Harriet married Richard Mortayne Harris, son of James Harris and Jane Barnard, on 28 Aug 1866 in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, England. (Richard Mortayne Harris was born on 2 Jul 1846 in Marston, Bedfordshire, England and died on 24 Jan 1895 in Foster, Victoria, Australia.) The cause of his death was Accidental Death - Hit by Falling Tree.
