George Brockwell

   Cause of his death was Suffocation - Well Gas.

  Research Information:

According to the 1851 Census George was residing in Canada West, York County, York Township and he either worked in, or operated a Brickyard. He is residing with Louise (Wagstaff) Brockwell and they do not yet have any children. Chances are that they had just gotten married that year or the year before.

  Medical Information:

George Brockwell passed away 1 of March 1886, after an accident in a well trying to save Charles Sear, a well Digger on George's property.

Some ask the question was it natural Gas or Marsh gas that smothered both Charles Sear and George Brockwell.

He is burried at St. James Cemetery on the banks of the Don River. He was survived by wife Louisa (Wagstaff) Brockwell.

The funeral Service was by Trinity Church on King St East and was conducted by Canon Sanson.

George's brother in law, David Wagstaff, tried to save both George and Charles Sear but he was unsuccessful. David survived but was passed out for 5 hours after his unsuccessful attempt to save the two men.

George married Louisa Lucille Wagstaff, daughter of Robert Wagstaff and Elizabeth Quince, on 14 Dec 1847 in Saint James Cathedral, Toronto, Ontario.
