Lewis was born at 4 Coro Street, Geelong, Victoria, Australia. As he grew up he was known as "Ben" by the locals. He lived on a farm at Reedy Creek, near Broadford, Victoria,Australia.
Lewis & Sarah's home was destroyed by bushfire in 1900 so they decided to move to New Zealand. Departing Melbourne, Australia on 21st of February, 1900 on the steamer "Waikere". They arrived in Greymouth, New Zealand, on the 6th of March 1900.
Lewis died on the 15th of May, 1911 in Reefton, New Zealand and is buried in the Reefton Cemetery.
Lewis married Sarah Winnifred Mary Harris {605} [MRIN: 567], daughter of Richard Mortayne Harris {580} and Harriet Louisa Owen {617}, on January 15, 1890 in Pascoe Vale, Victoria, Australia. (Sarah Winnifred Mary Harris {605} was born on February 23, 1868 in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, England, died on March 14, 1946 in Reefton, New Zealand and was buried in Reefton Cemetery, Reefton, New Zealand.)
