Research Notes:
Immediately following his graduation from the University of Toronto (right on the University campus), Joe joined the World War One allied effort and became a soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces.
His date of recruitment was December 5, 1917. It is unknown presently whether or not Joe went overseas or was involved in any combat action.
Since the war ended on November 11, 1918 and he married Beatrice Corrigan on September 15, 1920, it is unlikely that Joe went overseas or was part of any large scale military action/battle.
Photograph's taken of Joe during that time in his life (1920-27 roughly) clearly show him wearing several different military uniforms. More than likely he was a member of the militia post-war.
A copy of Joe's original (signed) recruitment form, and his subsequent acceptance in the Canadian Armed Forces, is included in his archive.
Joseph married Beatrice Jane Corrigan {491} [MRIN: 170], daughter of Reverend Richard Corrigan {1077} and Jennie C. H. Morgan {1116}, on September 15, 1920 in 450 Pape Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. (Beatrice Jane Corrigan {491} was born on May 11, 1895 in Mansonville, Quebec, died on May 31, 1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was buried on June 2, 1961.)
Joseph next married Margaret Kathleen Moore {752} [MRIN: 248] on June 7, 1962. (Margaret Kathleen Moore {752} died on November 23, 1976 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.) The cause of her death was Cancer.
