bullet  Research Information:

It is known that Charles owned an Inn/Hotel in Preston Village, Waterloo County, Ontario. He is listed as an "Innkeeper" on all documentation from 1881 - 1891.

More than likely, his immigration date has been documented incorrectly. It is known that Charles married in Canada, to a Canadian born woman. All of the children born to Charles and Catherine were born in Canada - the first being a daughter named Louisa that died as an infant.

There is a possibility that Charles may have returned to Germany maybe just to visit. When he returned to Canada his name would have been on the ship passenger list. Chances are that Charles originally came to Canada before 1856 since the first child of Charles and Catherine was born in Ontario in 1859.

It is assumed that Charles sold the Hotel/Inn at some point a few years before his death. Charles was a "Night Watchman" by profession when he passed away at the fairly young age of 59 in June, 1895. His wife Catherine would live until 1929 - to the age of 90.

In 1876, when his son Walter was born, Charles was a Police Constable in Berlin, Ontario (Kitchener).

bullet  Medical Information:

Charles had been ill for 7 months prior to his death, according to his death certificate. No place of burial is noted in any of his records. His wife Catherine is buried somewhere in the Kitchener, Ontario area.
